Arsenal v Galatasaray Prediction 9th December 2014

Arsenal v Galatasaray Champions League, 9th December

A routine match for Arsenal to finish their Champions League campaign, but there is a whiff of a chance that they could still overhaul Borussia Dortmund to top spot. The Gunners need the German outfit to lose against Anderlecht in order to be able to win the group. So all Arsenal can do here themselves is ensure that they themselves put three points on the board. Arsenal are 6/5 favourites for the win, with Galatasaray at 2/1 and the draw at 5/2.

Arsenal v Galatasaray Betting Tips

The Gunners hit the road on Tuesday night to visit Istanbul in search of three points which could potentially see them win Group D. When the two sides met in London earlier in the group, Danny Welbeck impressed his new club by slotting home a hat trick in a 4-1 victory. Alexis Sanchez (who has eleven goals in his last 13 matches for club and country) was also on target in that match, and they can both be taken at a price of 5/4 in the anytime goalscorer market for this game. Arsenal do carry a strong record against Turkish sides, in fact never having lost in 90 minutes against Turkish opposition.
Their only defeat against a side from Turkey was in the 2000 UEFA Cup Final when Galatasaray beaten them 4-1 in a penalty shoot out. The goal that Arsenal conceded against Galatasaray on match day two this season, was just the second time in ten matches that the Gunners had conceded a goal against Turkish opposition. Overall, Arsenal’s record is W6 D4 L0 against Turkish sides and out in Istanbul it is W2 D2. So there does seem to be enough consistency to warrant backing the Premier League side to come through this without suffering a defeat. If Dortmund draw their group game, then Arsenal would need to win this by a minimum margin of six to top the group, which seems improbable.
In suffering a defeat against Anderlecht on match day five, Galatasaray suffered their fourth defeat in a row in the group, and meant that they will finish bottom of group D. So they are eliminated, which should help Arsenal out because they aren’t going to be that interested in this game. Last season, Galatasaray hosted Premier League opposition in Chelsea and took a 1-1 draw and they are actuallyundefeated in their last five home games against English opposition (W3 D2). That was in contrast to failing to win any of their first four home games against visitors from England (D2 L2).
Galatasaray’s home record against Premier League sides is W3 D4 L2; overall it is W3 D8 L9. They haven’t been great at home this season though, as they had to wait for an injury-time equaliser to sneak a draw against Anderlecht and then they were steamrollered in a 4-0 home loss against Borussia Dortmund. Overall, Galatasaray are winless in their last seven matches played (home and away) in Europe and don’t look to be a big threat to the Gunners.
